How to Run Your Business and Your Home During the Busiest Season of the Year

Your business is heading into its biggest quarter, and at home, somebody just asked if the guest room is ready. (Spoiler: it is not.) Here’s how I keep my business growing and my home running during the busiest season of the year, without losing my mind or missing the moments that matter.

Can we just be honest for a second? November is a lot.

Running a business from home means that this is the season when everything wants a piece of you at the same time. Your business is heading into its biggest quarter. Your inbox is full of Black Friday plans (yours and everyone else's). And at home, somebody just asked what we're doing for Thanksgiving and whether the guest room is ready. Spoiler: it is not.

I've been running my business from home for years now, and I still feel that pull every single fall. The business needs me. The family needs me. The laundry pile definitely needs me. And for a long time, I tried to handle all of it by just working harder and sleeping less. Friend, that is not a strategy. That's a fast track to being cranky on Thanksgiving.

So let's talk about what actually works. These are the real, practical ways I keep my business growing and my home running during the busiest season of the year, without losing my mind or missing the moments that matter.

How to Run Your Business and Your Home

Protect your Priorities

Here's the thing nobody tells you about Q4. If you don't decide where your time goes, the holidays will happily decide for you. And they will choose cookie exchanges and last minute grocery runs every time.

The single biggest game changer for me has been time blocking. Before the week starts, I look at my calendar and give every block a job. Mornings are for the business work that actually moves the needle, like creating content, recording, or launching. Afternoons are for admin and family stuff. Evenings are protected. Not "mostly" protected. Protected.

Then I pair it with batching. Instead of writing one email, one pin, and one blog post a day while also wondering what's for dinner, I sit down and knock out a week's worth of one thing in a single session. Your brain loves staying in one lane. It's like doing all the laundry at once instead of one sock at a time.

If you only try one thing from this post, try this: pick your three non-negotiable business priorities for November and put them on the calendar first. Everything else fits around them, not the other way around.

Let systems do the heavy lifting (in your business AND home)

If you've been around here for a while, you know I'm a little obsessed with leverage. In my business, I want marketing that keeps working while I'm making memories with my family. Scheduled pins, automated emails, evergreen content. Set it up once, let it run.

But somewhere along the way I realized I was running my business like a CEO and running my house like an intern. Every week I was reinventing the wheel. What's for dinner? Who's doing the dishes? Did anyone buy laundry soap? Why are we out of paper towels again?

So I started applying the same thinking at home. Rich & Adrianna have regular jobs, not random requests. Meals run on a simple rotation so I'm not starting from scratch every night. And anything we buy over and over gets put on autopilot so I'm not burning business hours in a store aisle.

Delegating isn't a sign that you can't handle it all. It's a sign that you're smart enough to know you shouldn't have to. Your family can absolutely fold towels. They may fold them badly. Let them.

Take the errands off your plate

Let's talk about the sneaky time thieves. You know the ones. The quick run to the store for dish soap that somehow turns into 45 minutes and $80 of stuff you didn't need. Multiply that by every week in November and December, and you've lost whole workdays to errands.

One of my favorite swaps lately has been getting our cleaning and laundry supplies delivered from Truly Free. They make plant-based, non-toxic cleaning and laundry products that come in refillable packaging, and they show up at my door so I can cross "buy cleaning stuff" off my list for good. With holiday guests coming, I also love knowing what I'm using to clean the kitchen counters and wash the guest sheets.

And here's the fun part. When you download the free Truly Free app, you get $10 to spend on any purchase. No catch, nothing to lose, just $10 toward your first products. Perfect timing if you're planning a pre-Thanksgiving deep clean (which, let's be real, most of us are).

If you're in the US, Canada, or India, you can download the free Truly Free app here and grab your $10.

Outside of those countries? You can still shop! Just use the Truly Free web shop here.

One less errand. A little more time for your business and your people. That's a win in my book.

Give yourself some grace (and a plan)

You are not going to do this season perfectly. Some days the business will win, and some days the family will win, and some days the pizza delivery guy will win. That's okay. The goal isn't perfect balance. The goal is building a business and a home that support each other instead of competing for your last ounce of energy.

This post is the first in a little series I'm putting together for family-focused entrepreneurs. Coming up next, I'm showing you how to automate your home the same way you automate your business, sharing my entrepreneur's Thanksgiving prep plan so you can actually enjoy the day, and walking you through small swaps that save real money before the new year. Plus tips for a healthier home office, gratitude practices for busy families, holiday travel prep, and reclaiming your weekends.

So bookmark this one, grab your free $10 from Truly Free, and I'll see you in the next post!
